Warren Robbins University International is named in honor of the late outstanding Christian Educator Dr. H. Warren Robbins, of Barbourville, Kentucky. This outstanding educator and gentleman married Virginia Lucille Durbin and had three daughters, Susan Liford, Katy Lu Jones and Jan Tinsley.
Dr. Robbins was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Barbourville, Kentucky. He served as a Deacon for 30 years.
His professional training earned him the Bachelor of Science degree in education from Eastern Kentucky; his Masters degree in administration and supervision came from George Peabody College – Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, TN awarded him with the Ed. D. Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
Dr. Robbins’ professional experience covered many facets in education. In 1942 he began his professional career with Bell County Schools, Pineville, Kentucky, as a teacher and principal and later as Supervisor of Instruction. In 1954 he went with the Ford Foundation Program as Supervisor of a program to upgrade teaching and learning in schools. In 1957 Dr. Robbins joined the staff at Union College Barbourville, Kentucky as Associate Professor of Education and Director of Student Teachers. He moved through the ranks serving as Professor of Education, Dean of Facility, and Dean of Graduate Studies, a position held for many years and the position he occupied at the time of his retirement. In 2001 he was honored by Union College, by being inducted into its Hall of Fame as Outstanding Educator.
Dr. Robbins was an individual who had zeal for living life to the fullest. At the time of his death he was still active serving as College Teacher Educator for the State of Kentucky Teacher Internship Program – encouraging and evaluating first year teachers in Kentucky public schools.
Dr. H. Warren Robbins was the prime example of the Master Teacher, who touched many lives while he served in academic halls. The goal of Warren Robbins University International is to carry on high academic standards set forth by this Master Educator.
